The Random Post

When I started this blog, it was initially to simply practise my writing skills.  Besides the family members who are bound by blood and have no real choice but to read what I write and the friends who have generously donated 10 minutes of their week every Thursday morning to wade through my sometimes rambling posts, I’ve been lucky enough to collect a small, eclectic group of readers which one or two of my posts have touched in some way.  It’s completely mind-boggling to think that someone on the other side of the world has connected with something I have thought or experienced and attempted to put into writing.

My blog topics have always been quite pretty random.  I have no real niche and tend to flit from one subject to the next.  According to all the blogging guides, this is a big “no-no” and so I tried to loosely define four categories – namely Music, Musings, Meanders and Morsels – to highlight what I tend to find most interesting.

So much of life, it seems to me, is determined by pure randomness – Sidney Poitier

While I certainly write in those categories for a reason (the reason being that I enjoy those subjects), from time to time, however, I come across something (or more accurately, something happens to me) which I think might make a decent article but it gets shelved because it does not fit into one of those pre-existing labels.  I have therefore decided to create “the random post”, allowing me to open up all of my life’s randomness to you – my loyal readers.

For those who have enjoyed (or been forced to read, dear family members) my writing thus far, I hope you enjoy this new category.  My first random post will be coming up shortly.

You know, I am actually in the process of compiling a list of “random” blogs…I have discovered that the official name for us is “lifestyle” blogs! I prefer blogs that are about this, that, and the other thing. They are more personal and tend to foster a small, but tight-knit, community. Ignore the blogging guides! Those are only useful if you are trying to monetize and want to create cookie-cutter clickbait.
